Carina Dunmore Photography-Session Information

Newborn Session Information

When to book your newborn session…

The best time to book your session is during your pregnancy.

The ideal time to photograph your baby is between 4-10 days so they are nice and sleepy for me to get those beautiful curly poses. We will set a tentative date based on your due date and then I will wait to hear from you when the baby is born.

Where your sessions are held…

Your newborn session will be in my home studio or on location in Fresno on weekdays.

How long will your session take…

Your session can take any where from 2-4 hours, allowing enough time for feeding and comforting.

What should I bring…

You do not need to bring any props. I have plenty of props to choose from (blankets, baskets, wraps, bonnets and beanies, headbands and more) and newborns will be photographed in a soft wrap or naked to show of their beautiful little features. However, you are always welcome to bring any props or personal items to include in your session.

How do I prepare for the newborn session…

It is best to dress your baby in a onsie or outfit that is easily taken off. I highly recommend keeping your baby awake for about one hour prior to the session. Right before the session (at the studio or on location) a feeding is ideal to allow baby to be sleepy and fed and ready to go into a deep sleep. We want your baby to be very sleepy, so they are easily molded into poses. It is helpful to bring a pacifier and maybe even pump some milk into a bottle so we can feed/comfort your baby.

Family Session Information

When to book your family session…

It is best to book your session 2-3 weeks in advance to ensure a day and time that works for everyone. Weekends book up much more quickly then weekdays. Expect the session to be early morning 830 AM/ 9 AM or 1-2 hours before sunset (in the summer this is around 7 PM and during the fall around 5 PM). If you decide on an urban/ downtown session we may shoot for an earlier time.

Where your sessions are held…

There are lots of outdoor locations in the Fresno/Clovis area. We also have the option of traveling to the foothills or to nearby lakes in the Valley. I am always open to exploring new locations so feel free to share your vision or tell me where you’d love to be photographed and we will make it happen. Some options are parks, golden fields, bridges, barns, downtown, a funky wall, riverbed, or an amusement park.

How long will your sessions take…

Usually family sessions are about 1 hour long.

What should I wear…

Stay away from matchy white shirts and jeans or blue polos and khakis. Let your family’s personality shine with fun clothing choices! Here are some tips to achieve this: Pretend like you are creating one large outfit instead of trying to pair multiple outfits together. Imagine that all your pieces were for one person. The best way to go about this is to pick a patterned item for one person in your family (for example a flower dress for your daughter) then select the rest of the family’s clothing from the color palette of that first outfit.

Once you have the basics down, it will be easy to coordinate your group’s clothing for your family portraits. Layering clothes is a fun way to add dimension and texture (vests, button ups etc.). And don’t forget the accessories… they bring a look together. Use one or two accessories per person to complete an outfit and make it look polished. Shoes matter!!!! Please, don’t have your child wear Elmo shoes. No tennis shoes unless they are some cool converse or vans for the dads. And no matter what, always wear something that makes you feel good!

Do I need to bring anything…

I love the idea of families incorporating something that has meaning or reflects who they are. This can be anything from a chalkboard to a book, a car (maybe even uncle John’s vintage truck), a stuffed animal, a favorite quilt or blanket to sit on, or a cool chair. I have lots of different props too but I want to use items that fit your style and personality.
